New education plan gives Alberta parents more clout
A 10-point package of reforms to Alberta’s education system would give parents more power to hold schools and school boards accountable, the Calgary Herald reported.
The initiatives, which came out of a series of public consultations last year, include greater transparency for how the boards allocate spending and increased parental input at the local school level.
“Parents will be able to look and see how much money a school board is getting and how much is actually getting into Johnny’s classroom,” said Education Minister Thomas Lukaszuk.
“Legislation will come forward in the spring, and work on practical steps will begin immediately,” he added.
Interesting article to post, but consider this follow-up article on the subject. Is this the full truth?

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. Our original post wasn't intended as an in-depth analysis, nor was it meant to be the final word on the subject. It was merely a news brief drawing attention to the developments in Alberta. The truth is that this story of state versus parental rights is unfolding in several arenas across the country. We'll continue to cover it here, and this follow-up information will help us do that.
But it begins to restrict the rights for homeschooling. The right to choose how to school your children and what they learn about issues that Focus on the Family counter in our changing society. So does it give more clout?
